Job Description

POSITION OPENINGS - Adjunct Faculty: Applied Psychology

Loras College invites applications for adjunct faculty members to teach courses in our Applied Psychology graduate program. Courses needed are Learning & Motivation (Fall 2024), Group Dynamics (Fall 2025), and Interprofessional Development (includes organizational leadership and grant-writing skills, Spring 2025). These are 7-week courses delivered online in a combined synchronous and asynchronous format. The synchronous component is a two-hour weekly class meeting offered in the evening, with the specific day of the week to be determined each semester in conjunction with other faculty. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned course as specified in the schedule and course contract.
  • Participate in welcome orientation to become familiar with the University's mission, academic policies and procedures, expectations, and Learning Management System, eLearn (Moodle).
  • Clearly communicate course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, and assignments and deadlines.
  • Employ a variety of teaching styles to effectively deliver course content demonstrating both academic and real-world applications of concepts covered.
  • Encourage active learning through discussion topics, class assignments, group projects, etc.
  • Provide feedback and grade assignments to students in a timely and thorough manner (within 24-48 hrs.).
  • Outreach to students who are not attending synchronous class times, submitting assignments, or showing other evidence of active engagement in the class.
  • Report early alerts for students who are not actively engaging in the course.
  • Establish digital office hours to provide additional assistance with student questions/concerns.
  • Ability to legally work in the US. Applicants who require sponsorship will not be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology or another relevant field from a regionally accredited institution. Master's degree considered with significant experience related to the course content.
  • Teaching experience in an online setting at a higher educational institution.
  • Student-centered approach and passion for teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology or another relevant field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with integrating instructional technology into classroom experiences.
  • Ability to use learning management systems effectively to teach, assess and communicate with students.
